Digital OrthoPhotogrammetry

Orthophotography is an important source for mapping spatial information and updating existing GIS databases. It is often the best means for mapping such characteristics as vegetation, land use, wetlands, and other visually discernible surface phenomenon. It is also becoming more common for digital images to be used cartographically as map bases, offering greater detail and visual content at a lower cost than detailed vector bases. To put a new twist on an old saying "an image is worth a million vectors". In response to our client needs, GEO/Graphics has developed the capability to produce accurate, high resolution digital orthophotos from aerial photography or satellite imagery.

The process of orthorectification is used to remove distortion from the camera/sensor position, lens distortion, and deformation caused by variations in terrain from airborne and satellite imagery. Leica Photogrammetry Suite software is used to perform the image manipulation. Orthophotos can then be color-balanced and mosaicked using ERDAS Imagine, ERMapper, or OrthoVista. GEO/Graphics' robust assortment of image-processing software available allow for a diversity of image enhancements, format translations, compression types, and geometric manipulations designed to fit the needs of any client. Final products can be digital imagery at any resolution or high quality plots on paper or film.
